Q&A
What happens in a consultation?
Typically, consultations last between 15-30min and I do these with any prospective client (18+).
Consultations allow us a moment to connect and start to determine therapeutic fit. I will ask you a bit about yourself and your wishes for therapy. I also set aside time for you to address concerns and ask any questions to help you decide if I’m the right therapist for you.
How many sessions are recommended?
Therapy is nonlinear and oftentimes nebulous; there is no designated number of sessions because each client’s needs will be unique and therefore require different approaches that take varying amounts of time. I regularly check in with clients to see if they feel our space is productive and that they are meeting their goals. If so, next steps might include focusing on a new goal, decreasing the frequency of our sessions, or transitioning out of therapy. Some clients come specifically for maintenance. They use the space to talk openly and digest life events as a part of their mental health routine – much like going to the gym. Additionally, things happen in life so we can always tailor the space to fit your needs – both immediate and long-term.
How do we determine goals?
Together we will discuss goals and have an actual goal-setting session early on to help establish big-picture thinking. These goals are not rigid rules or frameworks, but rather act like guidelines for our sessions.
Are you available outside of scheduled meeting times?
While I love supporting my clients, I do not have the ability to be available at all hours of the day and night. I am not an emergency service and therefore cannot be reached outside of scheduled working hours. If you feel the need for additional support, you are always welcome to request additional sessions.
Are you religious or spiritual?
I welcome clients across all religious beliefs, understanding that incorporating one’s own faith practices can be a valuable part of the therapeutic journey.
I consider myself a spiritual person and while I believe there is a higher power I do not know if this power has a specific name or image. Instead, I rely upon a sense of humanity, love, and respect that aligns with self-betterment and compassion for others.
